Time and other things

2021

This drawing is characterized by varying intricacies of what life today feels like, as well as what it entails. This includes clocks that symbolize the passage and change in time - whilst drawing inspiration from Salvador Dali's melting clocks. Circles that symbolize cycles, cubes that point to intricacies and depths of life.

The rose adds to this meaning, with it being a rose but being comprised of so many different lines, pointing to the fact that there is more than what the naked eye sees. The words written are a play on words,  and a reflection of another element that is comprised of 'life'.

Radiance

2019

This is a wax crayon drawing dedicated to my boyfriend. The drawing is a brightly coloured portrait of him portraying the essence of his being through the use of vibrant and radiant colours. As well as rays of bright orange, to symbolize radiance that he emanates.

Faces

2016

These artworks are a series of black ink drawings from concept to the final artwork. They are comprised of a look into the idea of 'immigration' and 'emigration', differentiating factors about us humans in the world, without drawing attention to  racist nor stereotypical intricacies and details of colour, features and outliers. And rather drawing notice to one interesting and frivolous factor which differentiates us - hair.

Pointing to all that is left when irrelevancies of lfe are simplified. As well as the use of black ink and monotone colours ranging between black, white and grey to create a sense of oneness and single mindedness.

June 16: Soweto Uprising

2015

A series of sketches, drawings, installations and artworks created in 2015 dedicated to the lives lost during the Soweto Uprising of 1976. They depict the famous photograph taken by Sam Nzima of Hector Pieterson.

But, also include the use of vibrant colours in contrast to the black and white photograph, to represent South Africas "Rainbow Nation", and a sign of the changing times, compared to 1976.

Shoe Art

2016

Photographs depicting customized shoes by CHEMCHEMI. Influenced by the use of vibrant colours that are present throughout earlier artworks.

Window Art

2015

This is an artwork created out of recycled and collaged paper plastered onto a window, and later painted to create an abstract installation.

It is reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism with the use of strong brushstrokes, texture and passionate colours.
